Regulatory Compliance & Reporting

Since the early 1970s, environmental legislation around the world has become increasingly prescriptive, detailed and complex. Moreover, regulation is increasing in scope and intensity. The latest area under scrutiny relates to greenhouse gas emissions. The National Greenhouse and Energy Reporting Act 2007 makes it mandatory for companies in Australia to report annually on greenhouse gas emissions, energy production and energy consumption at certain thresholds. Mandatory reporting – commencing 2008-09 financial year - represents the first step towards a national emissions trading scheme.

Companies not only have to comply with regulations but they have to demonstrate to the public, customers and shareholders that they have an efficient compliance regime in place. Non-compliance can attract severe monetary penalties and can also affect competitiveness, share value and corporate reputation. However, managing compliance is an onerous task as industries are often restricted by time and expertise to effectively address the ever-increasing number of regulatory requirements. This is why our compliance services are invaluable.

Depending on your situation, we have the experience and know-how to ensure compliance with the rigorous assessment requirements that may apply. We can conduct a compliance audit to identify potential regulatory risks and liabilities, and create a plan to address compliance in a proactive rather than a reactive way. On a regular basis, we can help you report to the National Pollutant Inventory (NPI) and address ongoing licensing needs.

To ensure compliance, we can:

  • Help gain development approval for new sites and modifications
  • Undertake qualitative assessments in accordance with EPA requirements
  • Develop an effective control and abatement strategy
  • Test odour concentrations using dynamic olfactometry
  • Implement computer dispersion modelling to assess potential impacts
  • Undertake community surveys and consultations as part of any EPA-directed assessment process
  • Evaluate alternative sites, technologies and processes that may reduce or eliminate emission impacts
  • Liaise with local and state government authorities
  • Design and implement ongoing environment management programs.
