NGER Reporting

As Australia moves progressively into a carbon-constrained economy, regulatory compliance and reporting will become fundamental issues within all organisations. If your business is not already engaging in issues around climate change, it is imperative that you do so as soon as practicable.

The Australian Government passed the National Greenhouse and Energy reporting ACT (NGER) in September 2007. This makes it mandatory for Australian companies to report annually on greenhouse gas emissions, energy production and energy consumption at certain thresholds.

Under NGER a company must report if it triggers certain thresholds applying to:

  • Greenhouse gas emission levels
  • Total energy produced
  • Total energy consumed.

Compliance obligations under NGER began in July 2008 in relation to the 2008/09 financial year.

As one of the very earliest consultancies involved in greenhouse gas emissions management, we are well positioned to help manage reporting and compliance imperatives. We can assist in a variety of ways; in particular, we can help you:

  • Understand your compliance and reporting obligations
  • Integrate your compliance and reporting systems into your organisation
  • Manage compliance risk
  • Define reporting boundaries
  • Identify and record relevant data
  • Quantify your emissions
  • Develop an efficient data management system
  • Prepare your reports.
