Expert Witness

Companies with air quality issues are sometimes involved in legal proceedings such as court cases, public hearings or community enquiry forums. In these instances, due to the complexities of environmental issues, there is often a need for experts to support your legal team.

Our consultants have considerable experience in supporting companies in legal proceedings on matters involving air quality and meteorological issues. We have a proven ability to produce high quality reports in a very short time-frame and explain complex information in a meaningful way to non-experts.

Some of the ways in which we can support include:

  • Providing expert testimony
  • Analysing and explaining technical information and issues
  • Producing technical and scientific reports
  • Identifying key issues and developing the technical strategy to support or refute a claim
  • Collecting, cataloguing and presenting data, graphs and exhibits
  • Advising counsel on technical matters.

Our consultants have provided evidence on matters such as:

  • Odour (from a wide range of industries but especially intensive livestock operations)
  • Dust and other pollutants from mines
  • Industrial emissions and their impacts
  • Weather conditions leading to insurance claims and environmental legal actions
  • Visual impacts of cooling tower plumes.

In addition to court cases, we are also experienced in presenting to community and stakeholder groups, the media, advisory committees and corporate boards. Recently, our principal consultants participated on the Independent Panel of Experts for the Newcastle Group Coal Export Terminal, advising the NSW Planning Minister on critical environmental issues to do with the proposed coal export terminal in Newcastle.
