Applied meteorology involves looking at ways in which weather and climate affect what people and other life forms do, and seeks solutions to everyday problems such as improving economic efficiency, planning, safety and enjoyment of the environment.
PAEHolmes has extensive experience in meteorology, climatology, weather forecasting and field instrumentation. Our expertise can be applied in a large number of specific areas including:
- Preparing meteorological datasets for dispersion modelling
- Diagnosing local meteorological phenomena to help explain air quality events
- Forensic analysis of weather events (e.g. for insurance claims)
- Identifying suitable locations for wind farms
- Evaluating the suitability of specific locations for various agricultural activities
- Modelling meteorology for applications in other environmental areas, e.g. hydrodynamic modelling, hydrological studies
- Forecasting, short-term and long-term, for air quality management applications such as predicting when wind shifts may occur that may cause a facility’s emissions to affect nearby communities
- Evaluating meteorological conditions to determine suitability of proposed new developments
- Conducting long-range studies of how climate changes may affect the operations of a facility
- Supporting engineering design (e.g. wind studies)
- Supporting agricultural planning and research, town planning and architecture
Our meteorological services are co-ordinated by Dr Emmanual Anglo (Ph.D in Meteorology), Dr Peter D’Abreton (Ph.D. in Meteorology) and Robin Ormerod (Certified Consulting Meteorologist accredited by the American Meteorological Society).
