Projects completed either by PAE or by Holmes:
Brisbane Landfill, Qld
The Brisbane Landfill at Rochedale was a source of major community complaint for some years after its inception. PAE investigated odour and dust impacts as part of reviews of environmental performance, evidence for planning appeals and on-going monitoring and reporting required for the EMP for the landfill. We conducted the compliance monitoring work for the 3-year period of the EMP. This involved regular community surveys, odour measurement and modelling, and assessment of compliance with performance criteria. We were involved in detailed negotiations on behalf of BCC in the development of the terms of the EMP. Work also included a study on the effectiveness of various commercial chemical products for odour control.
At this site, PAE instigated the first Australian use of a variety of community monitoring techniques developed in Europe, and maintained an ongoing role in assisting Council meet its EMP obligations for the site. PAE was heavily involved in negotiating licence conditions for the site after the EPA sought a prosecution on the basis of odour impacts. We have also provided expert witness services to Council in relation to odours from the site, and have been involved in community liaison meetings to assist in the odour management program.
Swanbank Landfill, Qld
PAE prepared an odour management plan for the Swanbank landfill operated by Thiess Services. This involved a review of the site layout and practices and recommendations on methods for controlling odour emissions and responding to complaints.
Lakes Creek Landfill, Rockhampton Qld
PAE was involved in analysing and reporting on dust deposition monitoring results for the Lakes Creek landfill near Rockhampton.
Lucas Heights Landfill, NSW
PAE completed air quality and noise studies for the Lucas Heights landfill development in south-western Sydney. This included detailed monitoring and evaluation of baseline conditions associated with existing landfill operations, and prediction of future impacts.
Cessnock Landfill, NSW
PAE completed air quality and noise studies for the Cessnock landfill development in the Hunter Valley. Cessnock was selected as a site to receive waste from Sydney for landfilling. The work entailed detailed monitoring and evaluation of baseline conditions and prediction of future impacts.
Rosedale Landfill, New Zealand
PAE was engaged to provide expertise in relation to an odour problem at this major landfill on the outskirts of Auckland.
Bromelton Landfill, Qld
PAE performed an odour impact assessment of a proposed landfill at Bromelton, west of Beaudesert, Queensland on behalf of the Beaudesert Shire Council. The proposed landfill included waste transfer, greenwaste processing, metals and materials recycling.
