Industrial Facilties

The following examples provide a broad overview of the type of air quality assessment projects we do for our diverse range of clients.

  • Paper Mill

To solve air quality management issues, we installed our proprietary system, plumeXpert, which enhanced the site’s capability to forecast air pollution episodes, address complaints and track emissions - and so reduce its regulatory risk. The system models the impacts of pollutants emitted from a site every two minutes, stores onsite data with corresponding meteorological and emissions data, and offers comprehensive ‘one-click’ air quality reports.

With the system in place, the mill is now able to pinpoint the responsible sources of odour emissions by correlating nuisance based odour events with process conditions, archived environmental data and meteorological conditions.

  • Bulk Fertiliser Storage Facility
  • In response to a notice from council to the client, we conducted an odour and dust assessment for a proposed relocation of a bulk fertiliser storage and handling facility. The scope of work for the project included assessment of odour and dust at the existing bulk fertiliser storage facility and assessment of meteorology of local area to inform potential impacts on neighbouring sensitive receptors.

  • Galvanizer Plant

We assessed potential impact of emissions arising from proposed changes to the pretreatment process at a galvanizing plant in Queensland. This assessment formed part of a development application addressing a number of environmental issues including air quality impact.

  • Boat Storage Facility, Sydney

We undertook the air quality impact assessment for the proposed construction and operation of a dry boat storage facility in Sydney. We identified emission sources (primarily dust and combustion vehicle emissions) from the development and assessed their impact, as well as proposed mitigation measures.

  • Alumina Refinery

We have been instrumental in assisting a refinery design and conduct a detailed emissions characterisation of all site releases. This was part of an overall effort to assess impacts and negotiate compliance issues with the Queensland EPA. The fugitive air emissions associated with red mud and bauxite handling was incorporated into the assessment.

  • Boat Building Factory

We completed an air quality impact assessment for a large boat building enterprise on the Gold Coast, Queensland. The client manufactures composite materials using products that contain styrene. The study modelled the impact of styrene emissions from the facility according to QLD Air EPP guidelines for styrene. The completed air quality impact report addressed council requirements and advanced development application.

  • Industrial Park, Sydney

We prepared an air quality impact assessment for the remediation of the Car Park Waste Encapsulation (CPWE) at the Botany Industrial Park (BIP), Sydney. The air quality impact assessment formed part of an overall environmental assessment, and results were used in the human health impact assessment and preliminary hazard analysis for the project. Extensive dispersion modelling was performed to demonstrate that emission concentrations proposed in the Statement of Commitments satisfied air quality criteria, and was acceptable as maximum stack concentration limits.
