About PAE and HAS

PAEHolmes has an impeccable pedigree. It is the result of the merging of two outstanding consultancies: Pacific Air  Environment (PAE) and Holmes Air Sciences (HAS). As individual companies, both have made significant contributions to environmental management in Australia and overseas.

Pacific Air & Environment (PAE)

PAE was founded in 1995 by Robin Ormerod and Kristin Zeise and is based in Brisbane, Australia. It specialises in air quality management, atmospheric sciences and chemical engineering.

With clients in Australia, New Zealand, Asia, Europe and the USA, PAE established a leading position in the specialised fields of plume dispersion modelling, emissions estimation and inventories, greenhouse gas management, and regulatory compliance and reporting.

The company's modelling group has set benchmarks for air quality modelling in Australia, and has consulted on many high profile projects, as well as developed best practice guidance for specific industry sectors with difficult air quality issues.

PAE has completed major projects associated with the development of national inventories for the Australian Government and the OECD (funded by the Japanese Government), and has compiled facility inventories and web-based National Pollutant Inventory databases for a variety of large industrial operations such as power stations and refineries.

Holmes Air Sciences (HAS)

HAS was established in 1988 to provide specialist consulting services in air quality, meteorology and environmental noise.

Led by founders and co-directors, Nigel and Kerry Holmes, the firm has vast experience in both the industrial and government sectors, especially in large infrastructure projects.

With extensive experience in the transport sector, HAS has completed air quality assessment projects for major roadway developments including the M2 Motorway, Eastern Distributor, Cross-City Tunnel, Lane Cove Tunnel and Brisbane North-South Bypass Tunnel, among other road projects of significance. Air quality assessments have also been conducted for airports, the most recent being the New Parallel Runway at Brisbane Airport.

In the power generation sector, HAS has completed numerous air quality assessment projects on coal and gas-fired power stations throughout Australia, as well as on international projects in Kenya and the Ukraine funded by the World Bank.

HAS has also performed environmental impact assessments for coalmines, quarries and metalliferous mines throughout Australia.
